Celines Sanchez was tired.

Not just in need of a nap, but the kind of tired that comes with a brand-new baby, finicky and hungry and needy like all babies are. She had just turned 18 years old and was learning on the fly how to be a mother.

Sanchez had always been a good student, first in Puerto Rico and then since coming to Rochester when she was 7 years old. But now, between the late nights and early mornings, her classes at Edison Tech High School seemed a long way away.
