“Three different medications — including Concerta and Wellbutrin — for ADHD and a mood disorder left David’s mind “calm like it used to be.” Discover how to manage multiple medications safely and strategically.”

By Larry Silver, M.D.

“ADHD usually requires only one treatment to bring symptoms under control.

But at least half of all attention deficit disorder (ADHD or ADD) children and adults also suffer from anxiety, mood disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder, anger control issues, or another comorbid psychological condition.

In such cases, multiple medications for adhd may be required.

As an ADHD psychiatrist, several of my patients take more than one medication. David, a boy with a history of mood disorders, racing thoughts, and a volatile temper, takes three: Concerta for ADHD and a combination of the mood stabilizer lithium and the antidepressant Wellbutrin for a mood disorder. Rachel takes Adderall for ADHD, along with Prozac for anxiety and obsessive-compulsive disorder.”
