A second West Irondequoit student has tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the quarantine of a class at Rogers Middle School, district officials announced Wednesday evening.

The district announced Monday that one Rogers Middle School student tested positive for coronavirus, and that the child contracted the virus outside of school. That student had last attended school on Friday.

West Irondequoit Superintendent Aaron Johnson said that the second student is in the same class as the child who previously tested positive for COVID-19. According to an investigation by the Monroe County Department of Public Health’s investigation, it appears that the two children came into close contact with one another. It is unclear whether this transmission occurred in or outside of school.
