Webster Central School District’s interim superintendent Brian Neenan will permanently take on the district’s top job.

District officials announced this week that Neenan has permanently accepted the role. He has served as interim superintendent since April 30, after former superintendent Carmen Gumina abruptly resigned from the job.

Neenan, an administrator in Webster Central School District since 2009, most recently worked in a dual role as the district’s deputy superintendent and assistant superintendent for instruction since 2015. (He singularly held the assistant superintendent post since 2013.) Before that, he was the principal at Webster’s Willink Middle School for four years.

Before coming to Webster 12 years ago, Neenan worked as an assistant principal in the Victor Central School District for four years. His first nine years as an educator, he taught math and computer science in the Fairport Central School District.

Webster’s Board of Education is expected to vote to officially appoint Neenan as superintendent at the board’s upcoming Nov. 2 meeting.

Board members said they appreciated Neenan’s leadership in the past six months, his collaborative approach to reopening schools and his vision for the future.

Neenan in April replaced Gumina, who had led the district since 2014, when Gumina retired days after former Webster teacher Kali Watkins, who was exonerated of child sex abuse charges, sued the district in federal court and accused Gumina of steering the investigation because both men were sleeping with the same district faculty member.
