Money is still being distributed to low-income families to reimburse them for the cost of school meals during the pandemic — only some might not know about it.

The New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance, which helps eligible families receive various forms of assistance, is still issuing Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer food benefits for the 2021-22 school year, summer 2022 and summer 2023. The federal funds are being loaded on to P-EBT and EBT cards.

“Some families are not going to know about it and they’re never going to spend the money,” said David Rubel, a New York City-based education consultant who works with a variety of education-related and government agencies. “There’s almost no publicity.”
