Mayor Malik Evans has announced Rochester’s plans to develop an ADA Transition Plan to improve accessibility for individuals with disabilities.

This plan, mandated by the Americans with Disabilities Act, will focus on identifying and eliminating physical barriers in transportation systems and facilities. With support from the Genesee Transportation Council, the city is collaborating with Precision Infrastructure Management to spearhead the development.

Changes to critical areas within Rochester will be documented and improved to meet the city’s commitment to inclusivity and ensuring equitable access for all residents. Those areas will include sidewalks, crosswalks, bus stops and other pedestrian infrastructure.

In a statement, Evans said, “This ADA Right-of-Way Transition Plan marks a significant step towards identifying barriers and creating a comprehensive plan to improve accessibility and create an inclusive urban environment, ensuring every individual is able to navigate our city with dignity and accessibility.”
