You are receiving this communication to provide guidance and resources in addressing practical, social emotional, and disciplinary challenges inherent to the use of masks and face coverings during in-person instruction.

Proper use of masks is essential to minimizing the spread of COVID-19 but wearing a mask for an extended length of time can be physically uncomfortable and lead to changes in mood and behavior. Inevitably, there may be students who do not wear a mask for a variety of reasons.

In order to respond thoughtfully and with compassion, it’s important that educators and administrators attempt to determine the student’s reasons before responding and consider strategies that support the physical, social, and emotional wellbeing of all students and adults.

The attached memo provides guidance and suggestions for responding to a variety of mask-related concerns.
