The Rochester City School District will require employees to get vaccinated or submit to weekly COVID-19 testing, it announced Wednesday.

It appears RCSD will be the first district in Monroe County, and one of the few in New York, to impose such a requirement. New York City and Onondaga County have similar policies in place.

Employees were informed of the new policy Wednesday. They will have until Sept. 3 to present proof of vaccination.

Rochester Teachers Association President Adam Urbanski called it a “justifiable and reasonable compromise.” He has opposed an outright vaccination mandate.
