Northwood Elementary principal put on leave

An elementary school principal in the Hilton School District has been placed on administrative leave, the district announced Thursday.

Kirk Ashton, principal at Northwood Elementary School, 433 N. Greece Road, is on leave “pending an investigation into information brought forward to the district,” district superintendent Casey Kosiorek wrote in an email. Kosiorek called it a “personnel matter” and said “the district cannot comment further.”

Assistant principal Kelley O’Connell- Byrne will serve as acting principal in Ashton’s place.

A New York State Police spokesman confirmed troopers “have an ongoing investigation at the Hilton School District.” The spokesman added he will not comment on ongoing investigations. He wouldn’t confirm if the investigation involves Ashton.

“That is ALL I can say at this point,” the spokesman wrote in an email.

Neither the district nor State Police would say if the investigation involves students or if there are any safety concerns to be addressed.
