New Tool Now Available to Help Educators Meet the Individualized Cultural and Linguistic Needs of Students—Academic and Linguistic Demands: Creating Access to the Next Generation Learning Standards in English Language Arts for Linguistically Diverse Learners (ALDs)

- This tool, developed with input from more than 100 New York State educators of English Language Learners, provides a linguistic lens through which to examine the Next Generation ELA Learning Standards.
- Provides guidance to ensure alignment with the Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education Framework (CRSE) and to meet the needs of students with disabilities, early learning students, and students in Home Language Arts classes.
- Empowers teachers to better design instructional scaffolds that address individual student needs based on their proficiency levels within the different language modalities.
- Identifies specific Academic Demand and Linguistic Demands necessary for students to achieve every learning standard at every grade level.
- Provides exemplary language prompts to support teacher understanding of how to design instruction for each Linguistic Demand.
