One person and a dog were killed Wednesday afternoon in a fiery crash involving a school bus near Webster Park in Webster, according to Webster police.

The involved Wayne Central School District bus was transporting high school students on a field trip when the crash occurred at Lake and Webster roads around 1:15 p.m. Webster Police Chief Dennis Kohlmeier said that a sedan traveling north of Route 250 (Webster Road) entered Lake Road into the path of an eastbound school bus when the two vehicles collided.

The driver of the sedan and a dog in the car both died in the crash, Kohlmeier said. The driver’s name was not released.

Three adults and 22 students were on the bus at the time of the crash, district officials confirmed. All of the students exited the bus before it became engulfed in flames, Kohlmeier said.

One teen suffered a leg injury, according to district officials. The other students were evaluated at the scene and Wayne schools brought an additional bus to the scene to transport the displaced students, according to district officials.

Further details of the crash were not released. The intersection was closed for much of the afternoon and evening as emergency responders worked at the scene.
