“A former Spencerport middle school teacher has admitted that he created a fake social media account, posing as a 15-year-old boy, and induced young teen girls into sexually explicit conversations.
In a May 2023 conversation via Snapchat, the teacher, Ian Milam, ‘persuaded a 12-year-old minor student to take and send him naked pictures of herself,’ according to federal prosecutors.
Milam, a 38-year-old Pittsford resident, pleaded guilty in federal court Tuesday to a child pornography charge. Records show he was communicating over social media with students at Cosgrove Middle School, where he then taught math.
Milam’s crimes came to light last year with a Greece police investigation into how a teenage girl had received a sexually explicit photo on her telephone. The photo came from an account claiming to be a teenage boy at the middle school.
Records show that Milam pulled a photo of a teenage boy from the internet and used it for the Snapchat account.
Federal sentencing guidelines, which are advisory and not mandatory, call for a sentence of 135 to 168 months, according to the plea agreement.
Before his arrest last year Milam had been an elementary and middle school teacher for the Spencerport Central School District since 2018, according to school district officials.”
