Nearly four dozen people are in quarantine after nine new positive COVID-19 cases linked to Brighton High School were confirmed by Monroe County health officials, Brighton Central School District confirmed.

The nine positive cases are all in Brighton High’s hybrid program, district superintendent Kevin McGowan said in a letter to the community sent on Thursday.

McGowan said that 46 people were directed to quarantine by the Monroe County Public Health Department. Some others are self-isolating, at the request of their own doctors, as the contact tracing process is completed.

In the same letter, McGowan also told parents that Brighton’s middle and high school students will not be returning to five days of in-person instruction next week as originally planned due to the COVID-19 infection rate.

The rate, he said, is currently 228 per 100,000 residents in Monroe County “and it needs to be under 100.”
