Brighton CSD pays $1.75M in sex abuse lawsuit

Before deciding to go public in late 2020, Tara Yellen spent nearly 30 years privately wrestling with the impact of the sexual abuse she said she suffered at the hands of a former teacher.

Just over two years later, the former Brighton High School student said she finally feels like her experience was acknowledged.

The Brighton Central School District has agreed to pay Yellen $1.75 million to settle a lawsuit in which she accused school officials of ignoring signs of teacher-student sexual abuse during her time there in the late 1980s.
