“Rochester City School District Superintendent Terry Dade warned state legislators Tuesday of another, larger round of midyear teacher layoffs, or even school closings, if the district does not receive an emergency aid package to close its $35 million 2019-20 deficit.

That deficit, if left unaddressed, would likely prevent the district from paying its bills by the end of the school year, the state Comptroller’s office said last month. Absent state aid to solve the immediate crisis, Dade said the district could lay off up to 800 additional employees this year.”
